I've failed at blogging lately.

After a break of over a decade, I am officially in love with Star Trek again.

I watched every episode and never once liked Dollhouse.

I'm still not done with my exchange fic.

Jeff Goldblum's Detective Nichols pretty much rocks my socks.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was awful.

I'm going to WisCon & Think Galacticon this summer (let me know if you are too).

NIN's "The Day the World Went Away" is such a *perfect* song for the Terminator franchise that the Terminator: Salvation trailer that uses it almost feels like watching a vid.

The Amplificathon continues over at LJ. We're also doing a comment fic run for the Appellathon.

So I haven't updated on lj in forever, which is related to the still undone exchange fic, the conference I just went to, work, and other factors. I'm still around, just not posting; however, it's time to do the obligatory Dreamwidth post. My plan is to stick to LJ for my primary account (it's a permanent account that I've had since 2001, and it doesn't make sense to move it). I am, however, planning to mostly move to Dreamwidth for raz0rgirl. I say "mostly" because I'll be cross-posting for the foreseeable future. I'll also continue to read my LJ friends list and participate in LJ communities. So I pretty much look at it like I look at my offices at work--I work out of two offices, but it's the same job. Feel free to add me on Dreamwidth either from a DW account or an OpenID account. Or not. I'll still read your LJ either way.

Today's the last day to post to in_a_name (for now--we're probably going to run a comment fic challenge b/c the prompts are too good not to). Also, the amplificathon 2009 podfic challenge opens tomorrow. And I am still working on my exchange fic.

I'm still keeping my head down on LJ due to my *still* unfinished exchange fic (it's coming. just slooooowwwwwwwlllllyyyyyy), so I'm kind of amused to be posting this, but in_a_name opens for posting tomorrow (I'll be making a reminder post that effect on the community in a bit, too). Knowing that neither general_jinjur nor I go to bed at reasonable hours, we'll probably open it up around midnight our Eastern Daylight Time. Posting runs for 9 days. Hope to see you there as posters, readers/viewers, commenters!

I'm behind on *everything* (even more than usual). I just went back to look at about 10 days' worth of posts (BTW, I want to be on all of your filters--I *always* miss those posts). I'm on a bit of a hiatus until I manage to post the now very late exchange fic I'm trying to finish, but I just wanted to pop in to say hi. So hi ::waves::

I'm catching up on last week's Leverage. This show is so OT5. There should be far more after caper group victory sex fic for this show.

Today's 14valentines focus issue is education, which is such an important issue to me that as I type this, I realize I'm having a difficult time properly expressing it. I work in university education, as does my mother. My father spent time as a high school teacher. I was raised to love learning, not just in formal educational settings, but in all areas of life. Today's essay opens with "Education provides choices." I've seen some of the ways in which access to education can be denied to people, and it truly is the denial of opportunity. And while I highly value formalized education, I've also seen the arrogance that can come with allowing it to narrow or stagnate one's point of view. Education at its best is ongoing. It opens minds and teaches us ways to listen, to seek out new things, to celebrate and to see deeply.

I decided to do icons for today's 14valentines, because one of the things that's important to me as a woman of color involved in fandom is visibility. And, really, to go into all of what I mean by that beyond the obvious would take an essay that I'm too tired to write. The short version: More fanworks foregrounding characters of color, please. And more *listening* to fen of color about problematic portrayals in source material and fanworks and about issues that impact us (without freaking out about it).

I wasn't able to get my fic done (which is a true shame given that it's a ficlet, but that's the way it goes sometimes). I have a friend I've known since high school. When we were younger, I knew him as a woman who wanted to be a minister and who advocated for LGBT folks in churches. A year or so ago we got back in touch after having drifted apart (the wonders of social networking :-), and I found out that he'd transitioned from female to male. He's still an activist, and now I know he's also a hardcore Buffy fan.

Today, 14valentines is highlighting transgender issues. I thought of this friend when I was thinking about what to post for today and decided to make some Buffyverse icons. Here are 10 icons, five each of Cordelia (one of my favorites) and Oz (a favorite of another friend who's going through a rough time).
